Lighting Bolt Hands -Libby S

On the front cover of our novel called “The Power,” there is a picture of a hand with some scars and marks on it. Those marks remind me of tree roots growing on the hand. Within this book, there are multiple points of view that we get to go through and see. The first person we’re first introduced to is Roxy. Roxy’s house gets barged into by two men and she and her mom are fighting against them. This is when we first see this mysterious power used. The power in my mind is lightning bolts shooting out of her hands. This power in Roxy is a genetic mutation that only occurs in women. Roxy uses this power against one of the men to defend herself. The author says that there is a red scar running up his arm with a fern pattern to it and that description reminded me of the cover and I thought it was a cool detail to share. Since the scar was in a fern pattern it is like a plant creeping up on this arm. Which is exactly what the cover is really showing. Throughout this book, I feel like it will be really interesting to how the genetics of girls will exist in the world they’re in.
